About Nonpareil
With sheer guts and clear vision, Roland Quiambao took the leap of faith — leaving a steady-paying job to establish Nonpareil International Freight & Cargo Services, Incorporated in 1990.
“Nonpareil” is a French word meaning “having no equal.” Taking it one step further, the company redefined it to mean beyond compare — a promise that has guided every shipment we’ve handled for over three decades.
Our story
When Roland founded Nonpareil with his wife Belen, his vision was for the company to focus exclusively on customs clearance and international freight forwarding, drawing on his work experience. Domestic forwarding — the backbone of the company today — came later.
Belen explains that domestic forwarding kicked off the company. Together with her brother Jovic Pellosis — now VP for Domestic Operations — they took on the odd jobs that bigger companies considered too small.
With just five employees, Nonpareil thrived because the Quiambaos knew the business so well. Belen brought strong connections and handled the administrative work while Roland looked after operations. The couple never let an opportunity go by without trying.

Four years into the business, Belen stumbled upon a company that needed domestic forwarding services. With combined decades of experience and faith in themselves, they took on the job for a leading telecommunications company — a client that remains with Nonpareil to this day.
It wasn’t a planned investment, so the Quiambaos improvised — their home doubled as a warehouse. “The determination was there,” Belen says. That determination delivered the sensitive construction materials and communication equipment that became the cellular backbone of the country.

No business is successful without challenges — but we are determined.
A freight forwarder needs warehouses and trucks. We may not have had the numbers back then, but Nonpareil always made sure to deliver on its promises with whatever resources it had — once forking out a kingly sum to hire a crane to dislodge a container van stuck in a muddy pier.
In the early 2000s, a setback significantly reduced revenues as a big account slowed down. Roland and Belen are not the type to take things sitting down — they saw an opportunity for expansion and began making calls to new accounts, one of which remains a client today.
Nonpareil keeps itself grounded and the owners are very much hands-on — a distinguishing mark of the company. Decisions are made right there and then, because fast, reliable transactions are what customers need most.
